OUR MISSION

At Whispering Pines, we have carefully selected the finest wool shetland sheep from across the United States with the goal of producing superior fleeces that meet the high standards established in the UK where the breed originated.

Our mission is to restore the breed’s traditional place as the finest and smallest of the English sheep by doing the following:

Selecting breeding stock from the best fine fleece flocks in America
Practicing selection based on the 1927 Shetland standard and training received from certified Shetland Sheep Society Inspectors from the UK (there is no certification program in          the U.S.)
Conducting routine fiber testing which allows us to use the latest technology to assist in evaluating our fleeces..
Engaging in a holistic approach to evaluating sheep that includes all categories in the 1927 standard including: conformation, correct tails and heads, and seven key fleece attributes
Maintaining a continuous improvement mindset that ensures that our flock, products, and customer service improve each year.

The end result provides sheep and products that are not only true to the traditional Shetland Sheep breed, but that restore the breed’s reputation as a superior handspinning animal.

“Superior breeding stock – fine fleeces for the discriminating handspinner” means people see and feel a difference with Whispering Pines products, and they have come to expect the best that Shetland Sheep have to offer.
